Rubbermaid 5E16 FastTrack 42-Inch Vertical Ball Rack Review

Rubbermaid 5E16 FastTrack 42 inch Vertical Ball Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I organized my garage this summer with the Rubbermaid FastTrack system on 3 different walls in my garage. We have a lot of sports balls and I also coach Soccer, so this thing is absolutely necessary. It's better than using a bag or a simple basket too.

Pros:
1. Easy access to any ball - even the ones on the bottom.
2. Don't have to tip it over or dump it to get to the ball you want.
3. Holds all main sports balls: Footballs, Soccer Balls, Basket Balls, Kick Balls, most larger Nerf balls. Will even hold a softball and perhaps baseballs, but I'd put several in a small bag to make it work.
4. Lots of storage room.I currently store 2 footballs, 2 basketballs, 4 soccer balls and some cones in one of these. They really hold a lot.
5. Solid construction.
6. Easily put together in a few minutes with a screwdriver.
7. You can hang stuff off of the bottom, like a basket of tennis balls or bag of baseballs with a cheap hook from any hardware store.
8. Easy to move to the back corner of the garage in winter to get your snow shovel up front!

Cons
1. Could perhaps have been engineered with 3 of the bands instead of just two, as I've had a football pop out on me, but see above for the number of balls (I'm definitely over the limit and the bands are stretched out a bit).
2. I'm really stretching to find ANY flaws with the design, and the only thing I can really think of is a way to secure the bands at the top with a screw or bar so that they can't pop out of their socket. This only happened once right after I put it together and I don't think I had it in the socket all the way.It hasn't happened since, so this is very likely just me.

I have no idea how long the bands will last, but I'm betting at least 5-10 years as long as it's not in direct sunlight. This is absolutely worth it to help you organize your garage.

If anyone from Rubbermaid is listening to design ideas, how about a small sub-bin under the bottom to hold a few baseballs or softballs and 2-3 hooks on either side of the top and bottom rims to hold bats, gloves, and even shoes.

Either way, I'm giving this a 5.It's solidly built, well thought out, and works as advertised. All of the Rubbermaid stuff is pricey, but it looks nice and it's functional and easy to move around, and there aren't any serious competitors, so the price is what it is.

Quickly store basketballs, volleyballs, footballs, soccer balls, and more with this vertical ball rack from Rubbermaid. This ball rack gets balls off the floor and onto the wall. Bungee cords hold balls in while providing easy access to balls of all sizes.
The unit mounts easily to wall studs or to the Rubbermaid FastTrack rail (sold separately on Amazon.com along with a full line of FastTrack storage system components). Designed to hold up to 50 pounds, the device is equipped with a cast aluminum gripper that snaps tightly into the FastTrack rail system for that particular mounting application. The hook is protected with a soft coating that won't scratch. And, it flips down flat against the wall out of the way when not in use. Racor PHL-1R Pro HeavyLift 4-by-4-Foot Cable-Lifted Storage Rack Review

Racor PHL-1R Pro HeavyLift 4-by-4-Foot Cable-Lifted Storage Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After shopping for a garage ceiling storage system, I purchased this device.I was attracted to the ability to raise and lower the platform to load and unload items. This avoids the obvious pitfalls of using a ladder to hoist large or heavy items up from the ground.

In summary, I am reasonably happy with the overall product with some exceptions mentioned below. However, I will caution potential buyers that the design of this device is unforgiving.Unless your ceiling joists are EXACTLY 48" apart (they can be 1.5" less but not more than 48"), installation will be no where near as easy as the video on the website. You may need to mount this to a rigid board first if your joists are not 48" apart. The axle is not made to be adjustable and I find this to be a major design flaw of the device.

The foundation of the system includes 3 heavy metal grates that are secured to two metal cross beams with J hooks.I had a little trouble aligning the J hooks with the holes on the metal beams. However, by far, the most trouble I had was with securing the system to the ceiling.I really did not want to mount this to a board before securing it to the ceiling for aesthetic reasons. My ceiling joists were about 49" apart (instead of 48") and this created a VERY problematic installation. You need to secure this into wood (and not just the ceiling drywall) and you cannot mount the arms of the device further than 48" apart as the axle will not be long enough.I ended up lengthening the axle by a few inches by screwing both halves of the axle together with only the first set of holes. The two halves of the axle are supposed to come together with one inside the other aligning two sets of holes on each piece.I only went as far as the first set thus making it a little longer. Then I bought some aluminum 1/2 inch metal from a hardware store and reinforced the axle by screwing it to two sides of the axle.Keep in mind that the axle is not completely load-bearing so as long as it is rigid and reinforced, the system will work fine (see my uploaded picture of the lengthened and reinforced axle).

Problems continued when I used the included hardware lag bolts to screw the arms into the ceiling joists.Using a drill, I pre-drilled the holes as instructed and used a socket wrench to screw the lag bolts to the joists.I torqued 4 of the heads off of the cheap lag bolts.Do yourself a favor and go buy some better lag bolts at a hardware store before installing this device. The included lag bolts are totally inferior. After finishing the installation, it worked as described and I loaded it with a few hundred pounds of things I had previously kept on my garage floor.I will also mention that using the included crank device to raise and lower the platform, while not overly difficult, is a good work out.

Overall, I would recommend this product IF you know your joists are no further than 48" apart (or you are comfortable mounting it to a board first) and you go buy some decent lag bolts before trying to secure it to the ceiling.

Racor Pro PS-2R Two Pair Ski and Pole Rack Review

Racor Pro PS-2R Two Pair Ski and Pole Rack
Average Reviews:

Because this rack is so narrow most modern skis don't fit well. Of the 8 pairs of skis we have only one fits easily into the rack. Fat skis are too wide and thick skis are to thick. The clearance is about and 1 1/4 wide, depth is about 110mm. If your skis match this profile then these should work well. BTW- very easy to mount and sturdy.

SureLock Wall Mounted Ski Rack Review

SureLock Wall Mounted Ski Rack

I bought this to help keep my family's skis organized. This is actually something that is better suited to holding up a couple of brooms. I guess this could hold up two or so pairs of cross country skis, but certainly not downhill skis. It is way too light weight and narrow. I gave it two stars, because I think it will be useful in holding brooms.

Racor PBH-1R Ceiling-Mounted Bike Lift Review

Racor PBH-1R Ceiling-Mounted Bike Lift
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received two of these bike lifts as gifts. I installed them to replace my old "hooks-in-the-ceiling" method of hanging bicycles over my car. I had to take care to measure the height of the bicycle (adding a few inches for the pulleys) to ensure they cleared the car. I also measured the length of the bicycle to ensure it wouldn't be in the way of people walking around the car. Finally, I measured between the handlebars and seat so the pulleys were properly spaced. But once that was done, installation was a simple matter of drilling three pilot holes per pulley in a joist and screwing them in.

Although the instructions say to tie a stop knot in the rope and thread it through the pulleys and hooks before installation, it's easier not to do that until after you've installed the pulleys. (I did tie a knot in the rope and run it through the hole before I installed the first pulley, but that that turned out not to be necessary because there's enough clearance to push the rope through afterwards.)

Finally, I installed the cleats low enough to reach but high enough so people don't have to duck under the rope.

Like some of the other reviewers, one of my ropes was frayed. (The other one was fine.) I wrote an e-mail to Racor and a vice-president responded almost immediately. I received a replacement rope two days later. Awesome!

Conclusion: These lifts work very well, are easy to install, are reasonably priced, and are backed by excellent customer service.
