(More customer reviews)I received this item as a Christmas present, and I was originally very pleased with the large assortment of hooks, brackets and bins that came in this kit. The quality of the parts look to be very good - the chrome plating and welds all seem to be first rate. I was also originally pleased to see that each hook/bracket had a large-thread screw to keep it from being dislodged from the pegboard holes every time a tool is pulled out of it (like the hooks my Dad used to have). Other brands of pegboard accessories use small zip-ties to hold the hooks/brackets in place.
As soon as I started to mount the first hook onto my pegboard, I realized that the design is upside down! Each hook/bracket is attached to two holes in the pegboard with a screw above and a metal tab below. With this arrangement, the hook/bracket is more likely to tear out of the pegboard if any significant downward force is exerted on it. Its load bearing ability would probably be doubled if the screw was below and the tab was located above. I have so little faith in the durability of this design that I'm afraid to mount these to my pegboard. I'm just not sure I can trust this design, especially for my larger/heavier tools. I spent a considerable amount of time paneling my workshopwith high quality pegboard, and I don't want to see all my holes get stripped out by a poorly designed hook system. I am alsowary of the extreme ease with which these large-thread screws can strip out the pegboard holes simply with a few torque-pounds of over-tightening (use a hand screwdriver - not a power driver!). In hindsight, I guess the zip-tie approach would be more foolproof.
The reason I give it two stars instead of one is that a few (only a few) of the hooks can be used if they're mounted upside down - rendering them significantly stronger than if they were mounted according to the intended design. I haven't done a stress test on these yet, but if I do, I'll write another review. Right now, I'm debating whether to return these rather than risk damaging my pegboard.
Perhaps if someone from the manufacturer would write an explanation of why this was designed the way it was, I'd reconsider (?)......Maybe.
